“CHILYPEP has been an inspiration in setting the gold standard around consultation with young people. The Burngreave Community Study Support Consortium and Yemeni Community Association have worked closely with CHILYPEP to make sure that the voice of ethnic minority young people was heard in the Council’s consultation around the Every Child Matters outcomes and to involve young people from ethnic minority backgrounds in the panels for assessing Youth Opportunities Programme applications.”
Ian Clifford, Burngreave Study Support Consortium Manager
"Thank you Chilypep for the support, advice and encouragement given to the young people from Wincobank Youth Group. The first AGM was a joy - the members spoke with such confidence and humour. Ruth Wood's low key approach really has empowered the senior members to take the reins and
hold key positions in a management committee."
Penny Rea, Volunteer Youth Worker, Wincobank Youth Group
“Chilypep has been a valued and appreciated partner of CYPD, delivering high quality provision and initiatives with and on behalf of young people across the city.
CHILYPEP’s work developing the YOF/YCF young people’s grant panel has been noted nationally as a model of best practice. The young people involved have undertaken accredited training and gone from strength to strength awarding grants and monitoring projects. The success of the young people and projects is evidence of the quality of the staff involved and their commitment to young people’s participation.
I look forward to a long relationship with CHILYPEP further developing new opportunities led by young people.”
Kim Allen Youth Strategy Officer, Children and Young People’s Directorate, Sheffield City Council
“I am part of the YOF panel and have been for about a year now. Chilypep has helped me learn a wide range of new skills and I have learnt about the many brilliant projects that exist in Sheffield. Without Chilypep I wouldn’t have experienced new things and many of projects in Sheffield probably wouldn’t have been funded!”
Emma aged 18
“Chilypep are very well respected voluntary organisations who are an integral partner on the Sheffield 0-19+ Partnership Board. Their strategic and operational knowledge has greatly contributed to the development of the Participation and Consultation strategy for the city. Chilypep’s expertise supports the City Council in carrying out meaningful consultation with children and young people. They are excellent to work with and ensure that children and young people remain the focus of any activity.”
Kerry Jones. Partnership Manager (0-19+ Children and Young People’s Partnership)
The Project gave me a deeper understanding of what ‘participation’ truly means and also gave me a strategic model that I could understand and work with.
They have given me lots of practical support and advice and are unique in combining a clear understanding of strategy with great operational expertise in working on the front line with young people.
Jill Lancaster, Health Improvement Manager, Sheffield Primary Care Trust
“SOUL & FAME work in partnership with Chilypep. They provide us with one experienced youth worker for 2 sessions a week and our residential. In addition to this the young people have completed the Training the Trainers package, enabling them to deliver participation and disability awareness training to others. Chilypep also provide valuable links to other groups of young people ensuring that the young people with disabilities are integrated into the community and that the community learns about disability.
Working with Chilypep has led to participation in a number of exciting events for both the young people and myself. These have included political speed dating at the town hall with 15 local councilors, MPs, and the Mayor for democracy week, and having our say in the city’s ‘Every Child Matters’ consultation.”
Fiona Mannion, Project Manager SOUL and FAME Young People’s Disability Participation Project, Burton St, Sheffield
‘CHILYPEP are always there with advice about how to approach working with children and young people. They also play a vital role in helping children and young people advocate for themselves. I was very impressed with the way the young people involved with NSYF represented themselves at a meeting I attended recently.
They were very professional and articulated themselves
really clearly as part of the project team.’

“CHILYPEP brings a clear and creative approach to a much needed aspect of the ‘Youth Agenda’. Participation of young people into the formal decision making processes of governance in all areas of community and civic life is a critical issue. Chilypep enables young people to take on and fulfill this role, and does so with energy a sense of fun and real commitment to the young people involved.”
Sue Atkins, Director, Youth Association South Yorkshire
“I think Chilypep is a great idea. There should be more initiatives like it to involve young people as it raises their confidence and makes it possible for them to participate in raising awareness of issues that affect young people from their own perspective.”
Mado Khan, Sheffield Multiple Heritage Service
“Chilypep have been heavily involved in the Skate Park down on Binstead and Cookson Park. And the Park now has regular visitors from over seas that come to train and to help teach our children. Chilypep has also introduced in the area the (Off the Record) support group of local young peer mentors and of course they attend our area festival.
The work that has been done in Southey with Chaucer school and Chilypep co-ordinating a Dance event with local children and Dance tutors is something most of the children on the day who attended will remember for a long time. Chilypep has been very instrumental in bringing children from all social backgrounds together for a common cause thank you for what they have done in Southey.
Thank you”
Deborah Nicholson, Southey Development Forum
“They have helped me to develop and improve my knowledge and understanding of young people, and marshal my arguments about a positive image of young people to counteract the negative stereotypes that abound in the media and are perpetuated by people who were never young themselves.”
Ian Drayton Southey and Owlerton Area Regeneration (SOAR) Partnership Manager
“I have found Chilypep very positive, supportive and proactive in working on and promoting the participation agenda for children & young people.
Chilypep has a great of experience and expertise in working with and involving children and young people in the Parson Cross area and I would welcome the opportunity to work with Chilypep to transfer the good practice to other parts of the District.”
