Chilypep is proud to launch our new campaign #NotTheOnlyOne to raise awareness of mental health issues for young people in Sheffield.
#NotTheOnlyOne is a campaign in Sheffield for Youth Mental Health. We aim to raise awareness and reduce stigma amongst young people and make change! Search ‘Let’s Talk Sheffield’ to find out where you can go for mental health support!
Working in consultation with young people in Chilypep’s mental health campaigning group STAMP, three posters were created to raise awareness and address stigma surrounding mental illnesses such as obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), self-harm and bi-polar disorder.
The posters also include signposting to services and organisations locally where young people can find help and support. They feature football shirts in a P.E locker room with mental health issues on the back of each shirt, pencils etched with different mental health issues and a bowling ball smashing the stigma surrounding them.
The artwork is displayed in a Sheffield city centre window display and can be seen on Pinstone Street.
The campaign comes as a Freedom of Information request submitted by Sheffield radio station Hallam FM’s news desk found that there has been a 70 per cent increase in the number of young people referred to the NHS for self-harm in Sheffield in the last two years. Chilypep were asked to comment on the shocking figures, along with STAMP group member, mental health campaigner and young person, Becky.
