Rebecca Batley, volunteer for Chilypep and member of Young Healthwatch has been busy speaking out around mental health with the aim of #STAMPingOutStigma and encouraging services to better support young people in Sheffield.
Check her out on Sheffield Hallam FM http://www.hallamfm.co.uk/localnews/mental-health-conference-in-sheffield-for-young-people/ where she speaks up and promotes Young Healthwatch’s mental health event that took place on 24th November 2015.
As we approach our ten year independence anniversary, (fifteen years since the project began!) we have been amazed at the number of young people and ex staff who have stayed in touch with us and often contacted us to tell us what they are doing now. We realised that the real impact of our work lies in the stories and recollections that they hold, how they now recognise what their involvement meant to them, and how it has helped to shape their lives and achievements.

Foyez Sy, a member of the STAMP mental health participation group, is currently leading a campaign to get mental health on the curriculum. Foyez, is urging ministers to debate this issue in Parliament, calling for mental health education to be a core offer within schools and educational setting.
Foyez believes that “Introducing mental health education in schools will reduce the stigma of mental illness in society, help children deal with the modern pressures they face and will provide them with the advice they need to seek help rather than suffer in silence like I and many others have.”

Calling all Chilypeppers past and present!
Chilypep is turning 10 this year! To celebrate all the fab work that young people have helped us to achieve over the years we are calling all Chilypeppers past and present to join our ‘Look at me Now!’ Campaign…
We are asking young people how they were/ are involved with Chilypep, what they got from their ‘Chilypep experience’, and what they are up to now! We hope to be able to showcase and celebrate some of the fantastic achievements of the young people we’ve worked with, through the production of a ‘Chilypepper story book’, which will be launched at our celebration Gig on 17th October 2015.
If you are a Chilypepper who wants to share their story, or would like more information about the campaign or our celebration gig, then please get in touch!

As Carers Week 2015 comes to an end, Chilypep would like to say a massive thank you and huge well done to all the young carers who have worked so hard to make this week a success! At the beginning of the week we were proud to launch our Fixers young carers film, highlighting the lived experiences of young carers and the issues they face. It was great to hear members of VOYCE PG on the radio, sharing their stories and campaign ideas, be able to launch our young carers manifesto, and publicly showcase VOYCE PG’s campaigns work to date.
